A mentor to me.

Here's to a wonderful man from my hometown! Someone I would never think twice about working for (maybe even would rather work for...) and I am grateful for him and his family in my life... YAY MINDY FOR YOUR DAD!

Wes Matson has been styling hair in Hamilton for 30 years. From the Farrah Fawcett look to the “Rachel” cut from Friends, he’s seen styles come and go since opening Hair with Style off the corner of State Street and S. Third St. Nov. 1, 1979.“I went downtown and saw a lady walking around with rollers in her hair and something covering her head,” Matson said. “I was wondering if a hair stylist would be able to make it in this town.”At the age of 20, Matson opened his two-chair salon and was booked solid within six months.
Thirty years and two locations later, Matson said he still styles hair for some of the same people he did when he first started.“There’s still a couple of dozen people that are still with me from that first year I was open,” Matson said. “It’s neat. You need those people but you know there’s always turnover. You need both (new and old customers.) I’m fortunate to have that.”Currently at 605 South First St., Hair with Style features Matson, two other stylists and a nail technician.Though the sign out front may say walk-ins welcome, it’s hard to fit unplanned customers into their busy schedule.“I’ve threatened to take down that sign for 10 years,” Matson said, laughing. “But you need all types of business.”Walk-ins or booked appointments, Matson’s customers are one of his favorite aspects of the job.“I like working with people,” Matson said. “It’s one of only a few business where you actually have to touch people. When you touch people you have a different connection with them. When you sit in a stylists’ chair, you’re giving them permission to be in your space ... building trust. I’ve had people tell me things they’ve never told anyone before. It’s an interesting business.”Another one of Matson’s favorite parts of the job is that hair grows.“It keeps business going. It’s always been said our business is recession proof” a smiling Matson said, adding he also likes the artistic part of it. “I like working with my hands. I’ve always liked sculpting. I feel like I sculpt on a day-to-day basis.”Matson said what makes him different from other salons is the area is his years of experience.“I understand hair,” Matson said. ‘I know how to read hair and I’m great at communication.”Matson will continue to build on his experience and said he plans to continue styling hair for another decade.“You’ve never heard of a barber retiring,” Matson said. “You don’t have to just quit. You can slow down a bit and just cut back a little bit.”Hair with Style is open Monday through Friday. For appointments call 363-5109.

A Short Update...

Not much going on in our home lately. I work alot and then when I get home Shay is gone working. That's about it... Shay has a much more interesting life than me though, like the other day, he went GOLFING! Yup, golfing in December. I've loved this mild weather, so has he! =) I'm trying to think of something else that would make Shay's life more fun than mine but in my sleepy state I can't... Just know it is. HEE HEE!
Thanksgiving was wonderful. I got to see my parents for a few days and now I miss them, again. I got used to not seeing them and now I just want to live a few blocks away from them so I can go to their house after work and get a big hug from my mommy and some kisses from my Abbey (the dog) and the good, mature, and spiritual advice my dad is so good at giving. Sigh, maybe someday...
Christmas is coming FAST and I haven't even started shopping yet. I'm having a very hard time getting in the Christmas spirit this year... ????? Am I getting old? =) Is that what happens when you don't have any one around you that still believes in Santa? =) Hmmm, maybe I can convince Shay that Santa still exists, you think? Maybe. LOL!!!
So, like I said, not much going on but I wanted to say hi and let you all know that I love you and am very blessed in so many ways. XOXO

Twilight!!!

OMG I just got home from seeing the midnight showing of Twilight and I loved it! So good, it had it's not so good/totally cheesy moments but it stayed very true to the book and I totally want to see it again. If you haven't read the books you won't like it as much as the readers but I had fun and it was totally worth getting no sleep tonight. Can't wait to go again!

UNDER ATTACK!

So I don't know what is going on but there are these very loud booms outside and my house is shaking with each one... It's getting pretty annoying. I think it might be the military at Camp Williams doing something. Don't you think they would give some sort of warning to the public before they start exploding things, or whatever they are doing!!!!? Well, hopefully it stops soon. My new house is going to rattle to the ground!

PS, I have a recurring dream of living during a war and having to hide as the Jews did during WWII and in one of them a bomber like in the picture was flying overhead bombing my house. Isn't that strange!?

Blog Safety

I decided to read this article I found on www.ksl.com and I already knew the dangers of blogging, friends of mine have experienced it in their own lives, but this reinforces to me the need to be careful. There is a part where they talk about a slide show of the inside of someones house, and that the address is fully visible... GULP! Were they talking about me!? I totally did that! Anyhow, just want us all to be safe... LOVE YOU!

A growing number of Utahns are discovering serious drawbacks to a popular pastime: blogging. But we found some cases that may change the way you blog.

Lainie Ottley
Blogs help families share memories, but they can also make families a target for harassment, even stalking. But there's little law enforcement officers can do. It's simply post at your own peril.
A crazy birthday haircut documented on a family blog. His mom never dreamed their Mohawk memory would end up making him look like a member of the Hitler Youth on someone else's blog.
"We were really upset," blogger Lainie Ottley said. "For me, it's a huge offense."
She not only felt violated, but afraid of the association with neo-Nazis.
"Given the verbiage with the picture, we felt like it had created a pretty dangerous situation," Ottley said.
But when she called police, she learned there's not a thing they can do.
"That's some of the frustration, almost daily, when I take these calls," said Rhett McQuist, with Utah's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. "Right now, the laws haven't caught up with technology."

For another blogger, who did not want to be identified, the peril came not from pictures, but postings. "We had had no idea who it was," she said.
Degrading comments turned into more than a dozen threats and insults a day posted to her family's blog. "We just felt harassed and started to feel unsafe because of what was written," she said.
She and her husband eventually hired an attorney, filed a lawsuit, subpoenaed Google and were shocked to discover their stalker was a close family member. "It wrecked my trust in people, still does. And it makes you question everything," she said.
Those tough experiences get at the heart of what appeals to most bloggers: posting pictures of your children and making them accessible for family and friends. But how much information is too much?
We surfed blogs and found first and last names, birth dates for an entire, a countdown to the family Disneyland vacation, information on a husband's deployment to Iraq and a slide show of the inside of someone's house.

All this makes it easy, in many cases, for us to go from blogsite to blogger's doorstep in a few computer clicks.
It's just not worth the risk for these bloggers. "If you're going to do it, just know there's no way to keep it completely safe," Ottley said.
Criminal investigators say to Stay Safe, bottom line, don't post pictures of children online. You should also protect your blogsite with a password.
They also say guard information like your address. We saw pictures where the house address was visible.
Finally, adjust settings on your blog that protect your identity and make you unsearchable.

Blessed...

but not grateful for it... What do you do about that?! I have such a wonderful career doing hair. I feel talented and that I continue to grow every year in that area. I am very busy and this is where I lose any positive feelings towards hair. I work almost 50 hours a week. It's good, there are people that would give anything to be as busy as me, I know this. But I have times when it really makes me mad. I'm tired. I'm tired of working 10 hour days, I'm tired of listening to what everyone else has to say, I'm tired of the unwanted advice, I'm tired of squeezing people in cuz they just can't wait another day, I'm tired of it. What more can I do!!! I hate hair. I hate how vain so many people are. SO YOU HAVE GREY HAIR, SO YOU HAVE REGROWTH, guess what! you are NOT going to die, and if the people around you really care so much about your hair that you feel distraught about it maybe you should reconsider who you surround yourself with. SIGH. Now I feel guilty. It is a blessing to have this talent, it is a blessing to have people paying me to do their hair, it is a blessing that people are practically pounding down my door to have ME do their hair. ME!! I'm no different than the next person. It's humbling and amazing and frustrating all at the same time. I am grateful, I guess just needing to vent. I'm stretched too thin right now. Sorry to throw it on you. I feel like an ungrateful little brat now...

Broke (part 2)

Ok, so last time I posted a blog about something I wanted but didn't want to spend the money my sister in law bought it for me! YAY!!!! I'm hoping it will happen again. This is just a little more expensive. Oh I'd say around $360.00. Only a few more dollars than the earrings I wanted! LOL! =) It is an Amazon Kindle. It's an electronic book and you can buy the books for cheaper than at the store. It's all wireless... It's great. Check it out:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FI73MA/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=2466176081&ref=pd_sl_907ba0ydu2_e

(I don't really expect anyone to buy it for me but I'm hoping that I'll be able to save up for one or that the prices go down soon. Shay got an Xbox 360 for a few hundred so I should be able to get this right?!!!!)

Best site ever...

I'm not sure how many of you know that I am a member of this website. It is a fabulous website that has taught me extremely valuable lessons. How to eat healthy, better ways to work out, self esteem, pride in the good things I do... I could go on and on. It's not just a diet website, it's a healthy lifestyle website. You get to have a page (kind of like facebook or myspace) with friends that are also members of the site. You can join teams that have people that enjoy the same things as you. It tracks calories eaten and burned, I have it plan my meals but it also allows me to change them to meet my desires more.... I could sing it's praises for hours and I'm sure some of you have heard me sing them for hours.... so sorry! It's an amazing site and I love it. If you join look for me, my user name is iloveblankies. XOXO Stay healthy this winter!

7 random things about me Tag...

My cousin Kimber tagged me. I don't know if I can really list 7 random things about me but I'll try... If it's made up though, don't blame me, blame, ummm, yourself! =)

Here are the rules of this one:I tell 7 weird/interesting things about myself and then tell 7 other people to do it.

1. I'm not a huge fan of movies. If you know me you already knew this but someone out there doesn't. I just don't care to go pay 20 bucks to sit in a germy theater with lots of people I don't know with civilian clothing on. (see number 2 for explanation on the clothing comment.) I agree, the sound is awesome and so is the big screen but not awesome enough for me to go on a regular basis.

2. I HATE wearing real clothes. I prefer to be in jammies (pajamas). The second I get home I go straight to our bedroom and put on my jammies. It really takes a lot for me to take them off and put regular clothes on but every now and then I will do it. Just for Shay.

3. I have a blankie. The thing goes everywhere I go while I'm home and there was a point when I was having numerous panic attacks every day for a month and sometimes my blankie was in the car while I was working, just knowing it was there was nice. Shay hates this blanket thing of mine. (He teases me enough to make me think he hates it, I know he doesn't though) He teases me about it being filthy, how he can't understand that I of all people need a security blanket, and that I love it more than him. Little does he know....

4. I can "pop" every joint in my body, and then some.

5. I love the humidity. I went to Hawaii in 2007 and I have never felt better in my entire adult life. My body didn't ache, I slept good, my lungs didn't feel tight... It was heaven.

6. OOH! #5 will lead into this one. I am slowly overcoming my paralyzing fear of travel. I started getting panic attacks in my early 20's and I ALWAYS got them while driving and doing things I've never done before. Let me give you a couple examples of this problem of mine. I was at a water park and decided to go down a water slide (I was 24) and so I got brave and did it. BUT when I got the the bottom of it my chest hurt so bad I had to go lay down! Also, I managed to turn an 6 hour drive into a 10 hour drive because of my panic attacks. That's when it got so bad the doctors sedated me for 3 days because my blood pressure was dangerously high. Since then I've done a program (thanks to Ken and Karen for buying it for me. You saved my life) and I have learned to overcome the panics and have made valiant efforts to travel. Like to HAWAII!

7. I loved the movie The Last Unicorn when I was little. I want to watch it again but I'm afraid being an adult will ruin it for the fond childlike memories I have of it.

Sweet, I didn't have to make anything up. You're off the hook! LOL!

I tag: Tiffany Cody, Meaja, Mindy, Nabby, Audra, Liza, and Kelly LaFranca. LOVES!

My Birthday

It was my birthday last Sunday (Oct. 12) and I turned 28. WOO HOO! It was a good birthday, in fact, one of the best in YEARS! I hate my birthday. I get all excited about it and then the day comes and I get really embarrassed from all the attention and wish no one knew it was my birthday. I don't think singing a song and praises is really necessary, especially past 21. Anyhow, this year was fine. Shay was so sweet and romantic!!! It was the best! He got me a number of presents and started giving them to me one at a time. So on Wednesday I got a CD I've been wanting (Goldfrapp; The Seventh Tree), Thursday he bought me a book we thought sounded good (The Book of Lies), Friday he got me flowers, Saturday he took me to dinner, and Sunday he wrote me this wonderful letter telling me how he feels about me and our relationship. It was perfect. (sigh/swoon...) He's a great husband I love him very much.

We had planned on going to my in-laws for dinner but the day before mother and father in-law became quite ill so sister in-law saved the day! We went over to Kelly and Jared's to eat pizza and play Wii. It was lots of fun and they got me the earrings I wanted. (See post titled "Broke") =) (THANKS KELLY, JARED AND GRIFFY!) I got a frame from Jared's mom and sister (Thanks!) and my parents sent me a card with some kick ass money in it to spend on myself. (THANKS!) and then the owner of my salon bought me and the girls cheesecake (yummy!) and earlier this week we all went out to dinner. It was a good birthday and the celebration continues this Sunday as the in-laws finally freakin feed me!!! ;) J/K!

Anyways, thank you to everyone who made my birthday wonderful and I'm grateful that I have so many people that love me. I LOVE YOU TOO!

First for laughs, here's Shay being weird!

The Dentist part 2

YUCK! That's how I feel about the appointment I had with the dentist this morning. The cavity filling went fine, no problems there, and really, there were no problems with the work done at all. Just with me. Yup, I freaked. Nick was getting ready to numb me for the tissue removal and I panicked! I'm such a LOSER! A total wimp... LOL! Poor Nick, he was amazing. He gave me a minute to relax, talked me through it and did a great job in my mouth. He asked if I wanted some Lortab and I said, "Ha, I won't need that will I? It can't be that bad, you said it would hurt like a bad pizza burn." He said well, if you want it let me know. So an hour goes by and I'm chilling while he's cleaning Shay's teeth. Suddenly the numbness is going away and I can feel it and it HURTS! Way worse than a PIZZA BURN!!!!! So I'm thinking, well, maybe I'll have them call the PX in just in case. I took some Advil and 30 min. later it was better. Man, I'll tell you, I was not expecting the pain it caused. It wasn't unbearable and I still haven't picked up the Lortab, (I'm pretty sure I won't, the Advil has done the trick so far) but it doesn't feel good. :( I'm so afraid to brush my teeth tonight... Stupid wisdom teeth. :) So, there's the story. I'll let you know how the rest of the healing process goes. XOXO

I don't get it...

I have a complaint. I'll try to keep this short and sweet, we all know I can ramble. I've been attending my new ward for a couple months now. Every Sunday I see something that makes me want to SCREAM! Why the hell are girls under the age of 16 wearing HEELS!? Seriously, an 8 year old wearing 3 inch heels! We're not talking some flip flops or sandals that are wedged a bit or taller like these http://www.ninewest.com/Kids/107002,default,sc.html, literally heels like these,http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/40478817/c/1141.html . There are quite a few of these girls in my ward and it is driving me insane. Are the parents just choosing to not fight that battle? I don't blame them but at the same time I seem to remember my parents being the authority in the house and they had final say. If they said no you had to get over it. There is absolutely no reason for a child to be wearing heels outside of dress up time at home, and even then an inch is plenty high for someone so young. Ok, I gotta stop. That's all, just needed to get that out of my system.

Front and Center...

of the Ravalli Republic Newspaper in Hamilton Montana. This is how my moms day was yesterday. =)(and if you don't know my mom is DeLis Olsen, prounounced DuhLee)

Heather Kimble was busy pricing some Halloween merchandise on the afternoon that Loonies and Toonies Dollar Store became a drive through.

“I was just standing there with my back to the door when there was this huge noise,” Kimble said, while staring at the white-four door sedan parked about halfway inside the Hamilton store Tuesday. “She was all the way inside the store by the time I looked over to see what happened.”

“She” was Mickey Breckbill, who’d never ever found herself in a situation like this before.

A faithful customer of the Loonies and Toonies Dollar Store, Breckbill had just pulled up right in front of the store a little before 3 p.m. when something went terribly wrong.
“I have no idea what happened,” Breckbill said, shaking her head as she stared at the Hamilton police officer taking notes as he walked around her car amidst piles of shattered glass. “This is my first wreck in 83 years … I just feel so bad about this.”

Store owner DeLis Olsen reached over and comforted her customer while both stood back in the parking lot watching the police do their work.

“The Lord has his hands in all things,” Olsen murmured to her customer. “At least no one was hurt.”

Olsen said she was in the back of her shop when the accident occurred.

“It sounded like a train was coming through the store,” Olsen said. “It scared us all to death. I’ve never heard a noise like that before. By the time I got out there, she was trying to move the car back. We told her to just leave it.”

Bonnie Wischmeier was scheduled to work the next shift at the store. She’s seen Breckbill plenty of times before.

“She comes in weekly, sometimes almost every other day,” said Wischmeier. “She’s really a nice customer. Poor little thing … I guess my shift is cancelled for today.”

Breckbill said the police asked her if she knew anybody that might help.

“I told them I knew the chief of police,” she said. “I’ve known him since he was a tiny little thing. He was absolutely adorable.”

The store, which moniker comes from the nickname of $1 and $2 bills in Canada, will re-open on Thursday.

PETA wants Ben & Jerry's ice cream to start using HUMAN BREAST MILK for their ice cream instead of cow milk!!!

WHAT?!?!?!

Wait, wait. There's more!

This is in the wake of a Swiss restaurant owner's decision to start purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers for use in their dairy products.

Has he solicited Jamie Lynn Spears for help?

PETA is serious, though, claiming that it makes more sense to use milk intended for human babies instead of milk intended for cow babies. They say that the use of human milk will decrease the suffering of dairy cows.

Okay, we know that PETA is a little, shall we say, passionate, but um…have they heard of soy milk? Human breast milk is just a tad bit extreme!

Don't ya think????

The Dentist

is where I was this morning. Shay's cousin Nick is my dentist and he is great. I think since I'm family he's pretty chill around me but I really appreciate it. It makes being there more fun! =) So I have one cavity. Super small. I'm not even going to have him numb me for it. BUT!!! My damn wisdom teeth are a pain in the ass. They are growing in straight. That's good news. I don't have room for them to stay but since they are growing in straight it should be an easy pull. Right? WRONG! They won't grow in. They are just chillin the way they are and have been for almost 2 years now! Stupid teeth. For those of you who don't know the story I'll tell you and it might explain why I'm so bitter about this whole ordeal. When I was 13 my orthodontist told me that I had no wisdom teeth that would ever come in. They just weren't there. HOORAY! Great news! LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 13 years later they decided to show up. Now, it's only the bottom two. None on top, so that helps. But it still blows that now they are coming in and since I'm older they are so much more difficult to remove. Right now they are in my nerve area so if I had them surgically removed there is a small chance I could have nerve damage and end up with permanent numbness. WOO HOO! Sounds great to me! NOT! Also, since they aren't coming up all the way they might be anchored. Ha, sounds like that would be easy to fix too... (eye roll) Sigh. It's a party in my mouth! LOL! Anyhow, so next week I'm getting my cavity filled and the dentist is removing a tissue flap that is over one of my teeth that traps food and causes infections. I'm scared of that! He said it will feel like a pizza burn for a couple days. Guess that's not so bad... still though, terrified! HEEHEE! Wish me luck!

Pictures of the house, finally!

HEY!!!! I finally figured out a cute way to get my pictures of my house up for you all to see! :) Are you so excited!? If you just put the cursor over the pictures I wrote captions for them all. Wouldn't want my hard work to go unnoticed! LOL! ;) Anyway, enjoy. LOVE YOU!

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

I'm trying to post some pictures of my house but it's really pissing me off cuz it won't let me make it as cute as I want so you all can kiss it till I can figure it out. Or better yet just come see it!
Here are the rules...
1. Link to the person who has tagged you:
(I don't promote blog stalking)
2. Post the rules on your blog
3. Write six random things about yourself
4. Tag 5 people. Let each person know they have
been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
1. Let's start with the blog stalking thing. I hate it. Sure if you've got nothing else to do it's fun. But really, if you don't know me why do you care what is going on in my life? I do realize I'm putting my information out there for all to see but I just cannot understand the urge to stare into the life of someone I/you have never, and probably will never meet!
2. I'm a germ-a-phobe. Not unusual but lately my husbands been noticing it and so that must mean I'm getting worse with it. The other day at Chili's (after I freaked about some unknown substance on the menu and the table) he said, "Are you a germ-a-phobe? YOU ARE!? Where did that come from?" Ha, I usually try to get over it but I guess things have been grossing me out more than normal as of late.
3. I have a blanket that goes where ever I go. In fact it is in my lap right now. Shay is jealous of it (he wouldn't admit it) but I know he is, I cuddle with it more often than with him... How could he not be!?
4. I prefer silence.
5. Even though Shays' obsession with COMIC BOOK stuff drives me nuts it's a quirk of his that I also kinda like. It's who he is. I still think it's silly and a waste of money that he collects figurines and cards but I can understand where he's coming from and it's certainly nothing to lose sleep over. YET!
6. If I'm alone I often find myself counting. My steps, my breaths, the tick tock of the clock, how many foils I'm ripping at work, or pulling out of the hair... I just count. And it bothers me a little when I get interrupted. LOL! But I let it slide cuz it's a stupid thing to be bothered with.

Just call me Sicky McSick Sick.

So I have not been sick for over two years now! In March I had some rotten allergies while I was in Vegas but that's not sick... (kinda but it's not contagious) So here I sit with a cold. I've drugging myself with Nyquil and sleeping my weekend away. My hope is to have let my body rest enough to be able to work this week. I'm buying a face mask to wear while I'm there so I don't spread my disease around! LOL! That's gonna look awesome. Bet you wish I was YOUR hair stylist!!!! (Wait, I can claim some of you as clients!) ;) Anyhow, other than that things are great. Loving the new house... I guess our loan is getting audited. Who knows what that means!? Not quite sure it even really affects us as much as the mortgage company. Anyone know? Should I be scared? I kinda am... Anyhow, here's to the rest of the week and loves to you all.

Monday, August 18, 2008

A lot of you have been commenting on my need to post. I apologize for not posting, I've been so busy... If you stood on your feet trying to make people feel better about themselves 45 hours in one week you'd need some down time too. =)

So, I've been putting off this announcement cuz I just haven't felt like sharing it, and to be honest, I still don't but I keep getting bothered about it so... We bought a house. We moved into it a couple weeks ago and I've been very busy getting it together, arguing with Shay about decorating it and working my ass off. That is why I haven't posted on my blog for a while. And no I don't have pictures yet... I will put them up when I get them. Anyhow, it's a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, brand new townhouse in west Lehi. I love it and it's perfect. The commute is about 30 min. each way, I'm afraid of the roads in the winter but it's not like I didn't learn to drive in the snow in MONTANA!!!! LOL! So hopefully I'll be able to handle it, it's the other drivers I worry about, man people in Utah CANNOT DRIVE! =) Anyhow, Now I've made the announcement, cut me some slack about the pictures and be patient. Unless you want to come take them for me! HEEHEE!

Tiggz wants his Timothy Hay

Ok, This is not the worlds greatest video, I'm aware of that. You will be starting at nothing but our carpet for a second. Get over it! LOL! This is a video of what Tiggz does to the bars on his cage when he wants Timothy Hay. He's like a heroin addict when it comes to this stuff!

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

The first two are of Tiggz messing around in a box and eating all the yummy lettuce he can! :) The next one is of Shay and I going to a friends wedding on July 3, 2008. LOVE YOU!

Forced to blog

So my sister in law threatened to kill me if I didn't update my blog. I'm not being sarcastic either, she literally said "I'm going to kill you if you don't update your blog soon!" so... for my safety I'm updating. K, so, I got nothing... my batteries for my camera are dead so the few pictures I have on there that you haven't seen yet are stuck there till I charge the batteries and we haven't been doing anything that amazing lately so no fun stories. So, there you have it. You now are up to date with my life... NADA! LOVE YA! =)

OH MY GOSH!

I don't know if I would get in "trouble" for posting this but I will take the risk. Here is a sneak peak at the first chapter of Breaking Dawn! (I found it on EW.com)

Hi, EW.com readers,
I'm so excited about the August 2 release of Breaking Dawn — I can't wait to finally be able to discuss everything that happens! No more secrets! To help whet your appetite, Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive sneak peak of the first chapter of Breaking Dawn. The entire first chapter is available in the Eclipse Special Edition, out tomorrow, which will also reveal the cover of Breaking Dawn and have Team Edward and Team Jacob iron-on decals. Here it is, I hope you enjoy!

1. ENGAGED
NO ONE IS STARING AT YOU, I promised myself. No one is staring at you. No one is staring at you.
But, because I couldn't lie convincingly even to myself, I had to check.
As I sat waiting for one of the three traffic lights in town to turn green, I peeked to the right — in her minivan, Mrs. Weber had turned her whole torso in my direction. Her eyes bored into mine, and I flinched back, wondering why she didn't drop her gaze or look ashamed. It was still considered rude to stare at people, wasn't it? Didn't that apply to me anymore?
Then I remembered that these windows were so darkly tinted that she probably had no idea if it was even me in here, let alone that I'd caught her looking. I tried to take some comfort in the fact that she wasn't really staring at me, just the car.
My car. Sigh.
I glanced to the left and groaned. Two pedestrians were frozen on the sidewalk, missing their chance to cross as they stared. Behind them, Mr. Marshall was gawking through the plate glass window of his little souvenir shop. At least he didn't have his nose pressed up against the glass. Yet.
The light turned green and, in my hurry to escape, I stomped on the gas pedal without thinking — the normal way I would have punched it to get my ancient Chevy truck moving.
Engine snarling like a hunting panther, the car jolted forward so fast that my body slammed into the black leather seat and my stomach flattened against my spine.
''Arg!'' I gasped as I fumbled for the brake. Keeping my head, I merely tapped the pedal. The car lurched to an absolute standstill anyway.
I couldn't bear to look around at the reaction. If there had been any doubt as to who was driving this car before, it was gone now. With the toe of my shoe, I gently nudged the gas pedal down one half millimeter, and the car shot forward again.
I managed to reach my goal, the gas station. If I hadn't been running on vapors, I wouldn't have come into town at all. I was going without a lot of things these days, like Pop-Tarts and shoelaces, to avoid spending time in public.
Moving as if I were in a race, I got the hatch open, the cap off, the card scanned, and the nozzle in the tank within seconds. Of course, there was nothing I could do to make the numbers on the gauge pick up the pace. They ticked by sluggishly, almost as if they were doing it just to annoy me.
It wasn't bright out — a typically drizzly day in Forks, Washington — but I still felt like a spotlight was trained on me, drawing attention to the delicate ring on my left hand. At times like this, sensing the eyes on my back, it felt as if the ring were pulsing like a neon sign: Look at me, look at me.
It was stupid to be so self-conscious, and I knew that. Besides my dad and mom, did it really matter what people were saying about my engagement? About my new car? About my mysterious acceptance into an Ivy League college? About the shiny black credit card that felt red-hot in my back pocket right now?
''Yeah, who cares what they think,'' I muttered under my breath.

A scene from a movie....

Ok, so last night was CRAZY! Surreal even. I still can't believe it really happened! Are you wondering what I'm talking about?! I'll tell you... I'll tell you it from my point of view so the story can unravel before your eyes like it did me.

It's 12:40 am and I'm asleep... Shay suddenly BURSTS into the room and looks out our bedroom window (it looks down to a busy road) and says, "Oh my gosh, our neighbor just got ran over!" I jump out of bed and look out the window and sure enough there she is laying face down in the street all sprawled out. Her shoes we scattered in the street!!! It was awful. So Shay says, "They have been fighting for awhile now and I was watching them on the balcony through our peephole and I heard her yelling about how he better not leave, and then he took off running down the stairs (we are on the third floor) and then she was yelling at him and ran after him. Then I heard tires squeal and a thud and then someone screaming at the top of their lungs so I ran in here." CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! So I'm thinking "Oh my gosh, this is so awful, this is so sad. She's chasing after him and gets hit by a car. I can't believe this is happening!" So a couple minutes later the police and ambulance pull up and start doing their job. The police were questioning the boyfriend and the EMT crew were getting ready to stabilize her and then the guy came back over to the girl and she's not moving, not at all. I'm sure she's dying, I'm just horrified at the thought of it but I'm thinking there's no way she's ok. Anyhow, it took 5 policemen to rip him away from his girlfriend and they took him further away. Then we see the EMT's cutting off her pants and they are turnicating her leg and putting a temporary cast on. 30 minutes later they are putting her on the stretcher and in the ambulance and then they leave. During all of this I see a police officer giving the sobriety test to the guy and I'm thinking "What, why are they doing that!?" Then they give him a Breathalyzer and I'm standing there so confused, and then he takes them to the van that hit the girl and grabs something out of it and then he walks over to the sidewalk again and they ARREST HIM for DUI! Now the pieces are coming together, HE WAS DRIVING THE VAN!!!!! Holy hell! So he's gone now and it's only 5 of the 10 police cars left and they are doing their investigation. It was really cool to watch them measure everything and try to figure out how fast he was going and how she got in front of the van... They spray painted where her head, leg, and a shoe was, then where all the tires were when the van stopped. It was like watching CSI (thanks Brett for that comparison). Anyhow, so, I look out the door and their door is wide open, candles are burning, the window is open... So I closed everything up and came home. It was 3:30 before I was able to fall asleep. I was so wound up and freaked out! Most of you know that I internalize other peoples problems and emotions... So you can imagine I was sick to my stomach imagining how they must feel. Even this evening I feel so awful. It's so sad. And they are so young. He's only 20! Man, what happens to your relationship after that? So sad. This morning I could still see the blood on the street where she was laying! I just cannot believe that happened right outside our window to our neighbors. It's insane. Oh and as far as I know she's not dead. I think her leg(s) may be broken though.

So, there is my story. If I find anything out that is noteworthy I'll update you all. WOW! Crazy.

Mother's Day.... Yup I know, it was weeks ago, get over it!

We had alot of fun this year on Mother's Day. Ken BBQ'd yummy hamburgers and there was lots of other food too but I can't remember cuz it was eons ago. :) We played badmitton and laughed for hours. Of course, there was a small damper on my day... I didn't get to see my MOM! :( That's ok, I'll see her soon. Anyhow, hope you all a good mother's day, (well, all you sorry suckers that have kids! LOL!)

We had banana splits/ice cream goodness for dessert.
Shay loves the whipped cream so, of course he decided
to do this.... (check out the pics)
It didn't work out so good, it didn't come out in a straight line,
instead it sprayed all over his face and I thought I was going
to die laughing. It was the best part of the whole day!!! LOL!

And last but not least, my baby, TIGGZ!!!!

Happy Birthday Shay!

Well, I don't really know how to start... Today wasn't the day we hoped for... LOL! Really it sucked, Shay has been throwing up and sick in other ways for most of the day. I feel so bad for him. He got up and went golfing and half way through he's in the WOMEN'S bathroom, doing, well, what you do in a bathroom... HEEHEE! So then I get a call from my in laws later in the day while I'm at the mall and Shay is throwing up. Poor guy! He hasn't eaten anything yet today and I feel so bad that he got sick. So we head to my apartment and he takes a miniature nap and then he was able to pull it together enough to go see IRONMAN so, maybe he's not that sick. Just kidding, he is, but he really wanted to see it and he bought the tickets on Wednesday. Then after the movie we decide to stop at Jamba Juice and get some smoothies. Good idea right? Well, when we tried to leave my car wouldn't start. Finally we asked this dude to jump my car and neither of us have cables... fabulous. Luckily this chick that works for Jamba had some and we all were able to work as a team and get my POS car started again. HA! That is my wonderful husbands very happy birthday. In fact, his mother sang to him "crappy" birthday today! At least the day was full of adventure and the movie was awesome. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAY! I love you and hope next years is better.

Depressing

Just in case the title of this post didn't give you enough of a warning I'll tell you right now, this is a downer of a post but I'm just down and and want you all to feel down too!!! LOL! Just kidding!!! I do feel down though, I'm tired, and my body hurts... Like my hands, THEY ARE KILLING ME! They feel 20 times bigger than they are and they feel, umm, stiff. Yup, that's the word!! I worry that maybe, just maybe, my body is starting to show the effects of working so much and of growing up/getting old... =) I'm glad though, glad I can be blessed with such a great job even though it makes my body hurt. HEEHEE! (I'm all sorts of confusing aren't I?) and one other thing, IF THIS WEATHER DOESN'T GET NICE AND STAY NICE I'M GOING TO LOSE IT! I am so sick of 80 degrees and sunny one day and then 40 and snowy the next. LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY! I really don't know how much longer I can take it. I think I'd rather live in a place that gets too hot in the summer than have these long crappy winters and springs. Really!!! I'm just so aggravated!
Sigh, OK, I have to say that no one needs to be worried, I'm not moving into the world of loop-d-loo, aka crazies. It's just one of those days when you feel happy but so angry at the same time. If you are female you totally understand what I'm trying to say, and I'm sorry if you are a male and can only scratch your head at my insane oxymoron's... Life is good, just not good enough today... =) LOVE YOU!

VEGAS!

It was our two year anniversary on March 11! Can you believe it's been that long already? I can't. It's exciting. Anyhow, since we had a horrible 1 year (Shay was stuck in LAX for almost 2 days and I was driving back from Vegas enjoying some of the worst panic attacks I've ever had.) anyhow, we decided to go all out for this anniversary. We went to Las Vegas for a few days and had so much fun! We stayed in The Venetian, we saw Mystere by Cirque du Soleil, and enjoyed the AMAZING weather. It was in the 70's the whole time. HEAVEN!!! We did some more fun things and now is about the time I show you pictures...

Here are some pics from the hotel.

I loved the 3D floor!

Random Humpty Dumpty statue.

Outside view...

Gotta get some pics of the sweet cars!
